A Telecoms Engineer builds the telecommunications networks such a cell-phones and internet-related hardware for communication systems. The person is responsible for a range of duties some of which are the designing and provision of telecommunications equipments and systems, repair all the faulty equipment, and make sure that the new equipment is in compliance with the government norms as well as build/test prototypes of new equipment.
In addition to these, the person has to analyse the various needs of the different customers, help the organisation focus on the range of products being promoted, carry out research information, solve all related problems to the area of tele-communications, The person should be qualified with a tele-communications degree, supervise the installation and use of telecommunications equipment.
Besides these, the telecoms engineer must provide adequate training for company staff especially when new equipment is installed. The person also has to upgrade his/her skills in accordance with the new technology and identify how best it would benefit the organisation.
Qualifying candidates must hold a technical degree and have a minimum of a few years of work experience. Compensation and growth prospects are dependent on individual work records.
