Residential Social Worker 1 Year + Paid Expenses

A Residential Social Worker with a work experience of a year holds equally responsible duties as those of a qualified social worker except that the person has to seek senior authority before making any crucial decisions. Some of the important duties include the conducting of investigations into allegations of various abuse cases. The person will have to coordinate with the concerned individual’s family or friends and will have to be capable to defuse any hostile situations which may arise on the premises. Social Work Assistant

A Social Work Assistant is always the part of an experienced team of professional social workers. The team could be involved in the managing the problems of individuals involved in drugs or alcohols, abuse or even other problems dealing with abuse of adults, ill-treatment of adults which include verbal and physical abuse, depriving them of basic amenities e.g. food, and shelter.

Social work assistants work in total coordination with other social workers in either hospitals or community settings. Support Worker

A Support Worker has to work with the support and under the supervision of a qualified social worker in a team. The key duties include managing the care of patients/clients suffering or recovering from mental ill health.

These persons have to assist such individuals to live an independent living and maintain stability in their lives. They will assist them in the provision of appropriate accommodation and offer them practical support and advice. This includes with practical functions like maintaining hygiene, minor repairs, assisting them to access other community resources and establish social contact.

The support workers will have to assist them with welfare benefits and housing problems as well. In addition to this, these individuals will have to be highly skilled so as to identify any/some early signs of relapse in the mental state of various individuals.

On successful identification, they will have to supervise and monitor them by giving them appropriate medication. Attending relevant meetings, case conferences, maintaining strict confidence of the people assigned to their care are some of the other duties of these individuals. The person will have to offer an equal opportunities environment for all in their interest and according to the norms established by the council.

A formal education is a must and should be combined with prior work experience in the same work area. Computer literacy and sensitivity to human issues are highly essential characteristics. Salaries and prospects are entirely dependent on individual efforts and are on par with the best in the industry.

Tenant Participation Officer

The Tenant Participation Officer’s role entails working with people who have a problem or are face learning difficulties and mental health problems. The tenant participation officer must possess the knowledge to identify and implement novel ways of making all the tenants take an active part in all meetings, discussions and other related activities.

Some of the important duties associated with this job profile include appropriate and timely service deliveries to the various residents. These will include offering them adequate support, advise and guidance on all their issues. This person will also have to arrange for monthly meetings with the tenants encouraging the participation of all the tenants. Besides these, the person must possess requisite knowledge and skills to impart training to the other staff in the most positive and effective manner.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of all tenancy laws, the role of the governing body, the various rules, regulations and norms which have to be adhered to, the legislation of tenant participation and updating their knowledge about the same on a consistent basis.

The ideal candidate must hold a basic academic qualification. A diploma in the relevant work subject (tenants and tenancy laws, rights and services) will definitely be advantageous and to his/her credit. Prior experience in supported housing and tenant participation is a must. A pleasing personality, cordial demeanour and the ability to get along with people with different behaviour patterns are some of the qualifying traits of this person.

Compensation packages, benefits and growth are entirely dependent on the individual’s merit and effort to present the most productive results in the interests of the organisation and the individuals.

Welfare Rights Officer

A Welfare rights officer plays an important role in the industry of ‘social care and services’. Some of the important duties of this job role include the provision of advice and guidance on a wide range of topics. These will include housing, health, social security, benefits, disabilities and children, research on available information, analyse the same and write reports. The welfare rights officer will have to explain the benefits of legislation to the tenants and the other staff as also assist them with the different communication details.

In addition to these duties, the person will have to represent the concerned individuals at various tribunals and appeals whenever the situation may arise, paying visits to the clients especially those who are not physically fit to travel.

The qualifying candidate must be well-versed and have adequate knowledge about the benefits system so as to make the others understand the same. The person should also be able to explain the legislation governing social security, maintain records on all the individuals and should be computer literate to maintain electronic data as well.

A basic high school education is adequate and no real formal qualification is required though the person must have relevant knowledge and experience about the subject. One can always take up part-time studies, develop existing skills and upgrade his/her knowledge to be able to avail of better prospects. One can also upgrade their skills NVQs in Advice Work. Salaries are dependent on the person’s past experience. Growth prospects towards middle and senior management positions are dependent on one’s efforts and positive results.
