Account Manager

The role of an Account Manager involves handling a specific client or a portfolio of clients form identifying their needs to successful execution of their objectives in the most effective manner.

An Account Manager has an entire team reporting to him and working in accordance to his guidelines. The Account Manager must be highly skilled in client servicing, communicating with the clients, understanding their needs, requirements, their products, their manner of promoting their products/services and should be able to ideate and advise them on the medium of promotion, assist them to make the most feasible choices for the clients to achieve successful results.

The person must have excellent media contacts and good networking abilities. The person must possess excellent written and oral abilities, a pleasing personality and the patience to endure long hours of work, make appropriate deliverables within specified time-frames and must have the capability to maintain a highly productive relationships with all his clients thereby ensuring a consistent flow of business to the organisation.

Good team spirit, creating a congenial work atmosphere, guiding and assisting the juniors and other members of the team towards better work-results and helping them to achieve and work towards the interests of the organisation are essential characteristics of this job area.

The Account Manager must ideally hold a degree in Business Management. However, a person with a college degree combined with a few years of experience in the same area of work with a proven and successful track record can also fit the bill of this job profile.

Compensation packages are the best in this industry and highly competitive. One can also avail of various incentives which may vary from organisation to organisation. Growth prospects are excellent and the sky is the limit for the ambitious to graduate to senior positions.

Business Development

A Business Development individual must have very aggressive skills to pitch for new business and ensure a consistent flow of revenue from the existing clients which may be a part of the organisation.

The person must have the ability to strategise, ideate on out-of-the box, possess people development and mentoring skills. In addition to these he/she must have hands-on-experience and the management of small, medium and large teams of people through whom they would have achieved a successful track record in the past.

Revenue generation on a consistent basis is the most important function of this individual, but an equally important function is the after-sales service to retain the same client for future business.

The person has to establish a very amicable relationship with the clientele, offer advisory services and guidance in various areas e.g. in terms of choosing the right media vehicle to advertise/ execute campaigns, promotions and other activities all of which have to result-oriented and towards the successful achievement of the client’s business/corporate objectives.

Good team spirit, excellent leadership qualities, a positive attitude and a yearning to always achieve and succeed, inspire and motivate the others as well as nurture them in the most professional manner are highly essential qualities for this job profile. A person with a business management degree and some experience can start off at a good position but a graduate with a few years of similar work experience can also get a good opportunity with an interesting package.

Compensation packages are highly competitive and the industry amply rewards those who are willing to put in a little more effort than is required.

Field Sales

A Field Sales job function is present in almost every industry and offers a wide range of scope from FMCG to IT and from entertainment to hospitality.

Individuals must have a prior experience in sales with a successful track record to their credit. A person must be able to manage a large territory and work alongside and with a team. The individual must be mature, diligent, aggressive and have the passion to achieve the highest standards of success for the organisation.

A graduate can make start off at the entry –level with a reasonably fair compensation packet. Individuals with prior experience could start off at a middle management position with an attractive salary combined with incentives and other perks.

Growth prospects are immense and one has to have a consistent sales record to progress swiftly to senior positions in a short span of time.

Information Technology Sales

An IT sales function is as similar to any other sales job with the only difference being the industry.

A proven track record in prior IT sales is an essential as is experience in business intelligence solutions. The person has to be well-versed and knowledgeable about the products he is selling to clients/corporates etc, understand the needs of the clients and should be able to cater to their needs in the most efficient and effective manner within the specified time-frames.

Individuals should upgrade and enhance their knowledge of the new IT products and their applications to be able to identify the needs of the various clients and guide them with the accurate solutions.

All qualifying candidates must possess an IT qualification/degree as the industry is very specialised. However, an undergraduate with a few years of experience can also make a good entry into this industry at an attractive compensation package.

Growth prospects towards senior positions are totally dependent on individual efforts and their initiative to work towards the achievement of their assigned targets.

Media Sales

A media sales person plays an important role of supporting the sales and commercial activities across the entire company. The person must possess prior media sales experience, should be motivated, energetic and enthusiastic to target the desired clients for generation of revenue.

The person has to understand the ever-changing trends in the industry and generate business through effective strategic account management. The person should have the requisite skills to work efficiently with both internal and external customers and should have the capability to work in harmony in a team.

The ideal candidate must possess previous media sales experience. This could be experience in either in an advertising organisation or in a media house. A prior experience of at least 12 months experience in media sales is advantageous and a must. The individual should be highly adept and knowledgeable about the viewership numbers, rating figures of prime time shows, circulation, viewership and listernership of all the targeted mediums of advertising and guide the clients towards the usage of the most effective one.

Ensuring the clients the correct choices of mediums as well as accurate results and the ability to sustain the clients on a consistent basis are the qualifying characteristics of these individuals.

A bachelor’s degree in management with a specialisation in media is preferred and advantageous though a person with a basic college degree and a few years experience in direct media sales in an advertising agency can progress equally fast.

Working hours are long and tedious especially during a campaign/promotion phase but the rewards are satisfying. Salaries are competitive and performance related.
