An Agricultural Valuer is normally a part of the rural practice team and is responsible for assessing and valuing rural land and property. The job of an Agricultural Valuer is more specialised than that of an all-round rural practice surveyor.
Their responsibilities lie in the valuation of land, crops, livestock, buildings and machinery. Besides possessing immense knowledge of fluctuations in the grain and other crop markets, they must also be well-versed with the valuation of cattle/animals and have the qualifying attributes to deal with complex financial systems e.g. managing the accounts aspects of dairy farming etc.
Good communication skills and a passion for numerics is a must as agricultural valuers have interface regularly with farmers. On a personal front, they also have to be comfortable handling animals and be able to break the ice with farmers by understanding and communicating with them accordingly.
Important duties include the valuation of land, crops, livestock, machinery, buildings and trees and good relationship skills at to work with auctioneers to assess realistic sale values for the same. Preparing of compensation claims especially if the agricultural land and property has been subjected to compulsory purchase, offering appropriate decision making skills and other legal processes to assist farmers to make sound business decisions based on potential values of livestock, crops and other assets, ability to update oneself on the information about new crops and livestock.
A person has to have a rural practice specialisation degree and could also be a recognised member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV). A lot of patience to deal with the farmers, and a constant improvement on one’s knowledge about the relevant details in this area are some of the demanding aspects. The job is interesting in its aspect of dealing with a different target audience altogether and carries good pay packages commensurate with one’s individual efforts and performance. |

An Architect is chiefly responsible for the preparing and reviewing of plans, the construction bid documents and the specifications for both, major as well as minor capital improvement projects. A person must have highly excellent organising and coordinating skills, skills to prepare engineering documents, specifications and cost estimates for projects. Knowledge of design, construction and maintenance, supervise and train staff.

An Auctioneer is chiefly responsible for selling articles at an auction to the highest bidder. The person has to appraise the merchandise before sale and has to assemble the merchandise in lots according to the estimated value of individual pieces or according to the type of article.

The person has to be knowledgeable about all related subjects to this trade and should be able to ask for bids and make adjustments to the amounts by which bids are advanced until the item being sold goes 'under the hammer' to the highest bidder.
