Grade A

For all who are interested in stepping into a health care career the first step is to take up a position of a nursing auxiliary. These are available on a part-time and full-time basis.

These persons are as important as any other member working in a health care team. Grade A Nurses include auxiliary and assistants and must be efficient to offer necessary and direct patient care under the keen supervision of a qualified nurse.

The person has to have a very caring attitude, have a warm and friendly personality and should be able to communicate very well. This job profile involves long hours of work, catering to the needs of different people of extreme nature and one has to be mentally and physically prepared to undertake all the related responsibilities.

The person does not have to have any medical qualification or prior work experience as induction and training are always provided. This job profile is both inspiring, challenging, and also rewarding. Individuals who are keen to make this their career have ample opportunity to enhance their skills and with a successful track record move on to better opportunities. Salaries are competitive and on par with those prevailing in the industry.

Grade B

The job profile of all ‘Grade B’ Nurses) involves providing immense care and support to the patients who are assigned to their care. They have to assist the patients in their everyday living and help them to live their lives with the utmost of dignity, independence and respect. These persons must possess the capabilities of empathizing with the patients genuinely and lovingly and make them feel a part of the entire community.

These Nurses have to provide the requisite amount of nursing care under the supervision or as per norms given to them by a Registered Nurse. This becomes imperative in the case of patients who have or are recovering from a mental illness and have been previously assessed by a Registered Mental Health Nurse. In addition to this, the person has to record all visits made to the patient, the care procedures in team files as well as plan and organise the workload assigned.

Excellent time management skills and prioritisation of work should come naturally to this person. Making accurate records and notes on the patients’ conditions and keeping the co-assistant well informed, as also to the authorities, full support and assistance to the patients in their efforts to eat, drink and personal hygiene and maintain very cordial relations with those on duty and the patients are some of the important pre-requisites which a person in this area of work must possess.

The person has to comply with all the codes and practices set up by the organisation. For this job profile no real qualification is required though some health or social care qualification is desirable. Persons should have experience of having worked with people having mental health problems, should have an understanding of the physical and psychological problems as well as have experience in a community based health care setting. The person must have some experience in basic health monitoring like blood pressure weight and recording of temperature.

Grade C

All candidates qualifying for a Grade C Nurse position must be registered nurses (adult nursing) in compliance with the nursing policies and procedures of that country. These include both enrolled & auxiliary nurses.

The persons must have the requisite capabilities to evaluate patient care and make necessary changes whenever required, administer all medications in accordance to the safe procedures established by the hospital, monitor the effects of the same on a regular basis and plan patient care accordingly.

The person must have the ability to educate patients in the desired manner, maintain proper and accurate records of all the patients, and communicate with them in the most caring and effective manner. Keeping the senior authorities and the co-workers informed about the progress of the patients and other relevant issues on a timely basis is another important function of this work area.

The individual must take the initiative to develop an understanding of all the clinical supervision programmes, actively take part in team meetings and initiate ideas to improvise upon the innumerable clinical practices and also enhance their own educational and professional skills to move towards better positions. Salaries are competitive and on par with those prevailing in the industry.

Grade D

This work area includes newly qualified nurses whose chief duties would entail participation in the setting and evaluation of the various standards of nursing practices in both the ward and the department. They will have to work towards ensuring high standards of caring towards the patients at all times and make that a point of focus at all times.

All qualifying candidates must be aware of the nursing trust policies, practices and clinical guidelines as well as the procedures. They must abide by and ensure multidisciplinary input to all the nursing programmes of care. Keeping the patients and relatives informed about the patient’s illness or progress is a very important role of this profile.

The person will have to be efficient to administer all requisite medications on a one-person drug round. Perfect knowledge and understanding of individual medicines, their effects, side effects and interactions and the legislation which controls their usage, storage, administration and prescription of medicines are pre-requisites of these personnel.

Besides these duties, others include participating in the practice and development and research activities with the sole intention of maximizing patient care. A safe environment combined with excellent hygiene standards is another important responsibility of these persons and the equipment in a safe and working order so that it can be used effectively.

These persons are also expected to play the role of health educators which would include educating the patients their relatives and other close well-wishers who would be visiting them on a regular basis. This is to ensure that they all are informed about the patient’s progress, the illness and the possible outcomes in every case.

The person should be of a highly caring nature, emote extremely well with the patients in their interests and make them feel comfortable and wanted at all times. Candidates must possess appropriate academic qualifications for this position and have ample experience to do justice to the duties assigned to them.

Compensation and prospects are dependent on the person’s efforts and personal initiatives to progress towards senior and lucrative positions. Persons with good experience can even engage themselves as visiting lecturers in their area of specialisation.

Grade E

All Grade E nurses are responsible for providing skilled nursing without any direct supervision from their senior nurses. These have to be in compliance with the established norms and clinical procedures of the hospital they work in.

The chief duties of these persons include the caring of individual patients, manage all patients from the time of their being admitted into the hospital to their being discharged, initiate prescribed treatments, clinical interventions in response to any/some changes of the patient’s conditions. In addition to these, the person also has to work in perfect coordination with the rest of the team, the other nurses and offer all requisite support whenever required.

Individuals must enhance their skills regularly particular on the latest developments in nursing, specialty specific information, act as a resource person to others, provide knowledge and requisite information to junior staff and also cooperate with them thereby assuming responsibility in the interests of the organisation. Other duties involve maintaining appropriate levels of stocks in the wards and departments and utilising all the resources to the highest levels of efficiency.

The person has to constantly develop his/her skills, their professional development and cooperate with the efforts of the other junior staff as well as those of the other working in the same department.
