Recreation Assistant

A Recreation Assistant’s job area focuses on delivery of the most superior and satisfying customer care and services to the patrons of the said premises. The person has to, on a consistent basis, be involved in assisting the various patrons in various fitness and health related activities. A Recreation assistant must possess all the knowledge related to health and safety issues on the premises and should be skillful to implement as well as assess any procedures which may be drawing attention to unsafe practices.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the recreation assistant will have to ensure the cleanliness and the comfort of all the facilities / equipment which is being utilised by the members and other clients, be innovative and a self – starter to initiate new schemes or ideas to attract new clients to become patrons of that leisure centre.

This person should have a good team spirit combined with very good organisation and communication skills to be able to interact with all the customers in a friendly and professional manner, guide the junior staff towards effective results in their work areas and provide the most impeccable services to all who patronize the services of the leisure premises.

The ideal candidate must possess a basic education qualification or hold a diploma in hospitality. A RLSS national pool life qualification combined with a certificate in safety and first aid is also a must.

Growth prospects are excellent for those desirous of a life-long career in this profession. They can move on to senior positions swiftly by proving their success in their work area. Compensations are dependent on the management bodies of individual leisure centers but are fairly reasonable for one to earn and learn in a comfortable way.

Sports Manager

A Sports Manager’s role may span across more than one work area. This could include a private sports club, a public sports club and even the sports management of a team.

This person must be involved in the entire range of activities, programmes offered by the Club, should have the requisite skills to work with the patrons of the club and cater to their needs in a satisfactory manner. The person must possess a hands-on-approach, a passion for sports, the skills to handle the business through sales and make excellent services to existing customers, members as well as the new clients. The sports manager should have a good business acumen and should be able to cash in on various activities by maneuvering them towards the interests of the patrons.

In the case of managing a sports team, the individual needs to possess the requisite organisational and management skills, strategise team building practices for the team, possess skills for negotiating sponsorship deals, brand management to make the concerned individuals valuable brand properties.

The ideal candidates should be highly enthusiastic about their profession, should possess the necessary qualifications in both the work area and sports fitness to be able to impart the same to the members. Persons in this job function are required to be physically fit, have excellent communication skills and willing to travel whenever the sport or the occasion demands. A pleasing personality and the ability to get along with a wide variety of people is a must.

Tour Guide

A Tour Guide is chiefly responsible for conducting interesting and professional tours for travelers. The person has to have immense knowledge about every tour that he / she conducts to be able to answer all queries they may be subject to by the tourists/travelers.

The important responsibilities associated with this job profile include extreme professionalism in managing all the clients. These may include the VIP and regular tourists as well as the public at large. The person has to have excellent oral and written communication skills, good team spirit, should be able to handle a team of juniors who may be accompanying the person on some of the tours and should be able to guide and assist them in handling all the tourists/travelers.

A Tour Guide will also have to be involved in the organising and administrative functions of the various tours. This will include the processing of all necessary paper work for tourists, furnishing them requisite information, directions, keeping and alert and maintaining all the travel equipment, spare parts etc.

A Tour Guide should have a thorough knowledge of the customs of people hailing from different parts of the world so as to understand their needs and cater to them in a better fashion. A pleasant personality combined with trust and reliability are the essential traits of a tour guide. The person should also possess a strong physique as the job is demanding and involves traveling.

The ideal candidate should have completed an academic course in tours and travel and should have an experience of at least 3-4 years in the same industry. In addition to a basic salary a person can earn handsomely via the tourists themselves who tip very generously. Growth prospects are attractive for those who have a passion for this industry and one can move onto senior positions in a short span of time after proving to be successful in their work area.

Tourism Manager

A Tourism Manager has a highly responsible job. The person has to constantly strategise and new plans for the current and future to increase the tap the leisure market to its full potential.

The person will have to be highly skilful at networking with commercial resorts, hotels and other tourism industry contacts. Managing trade shows, pitching for new clientele, conducting sales calls, and a regular on generating new leads to prospective clients are some of the other important duties of this person.

The job function is a hyper-active one expecting the person to be on his/her toes always, requiring a lot of physical stamina and a very pleasing personality. Excellent written and oral communication skills combined with a few years of experience and expertise in this industry will help an individual to grow at a fast pace.

Hairdresser

A Hairdresser’s principal line of activity revolves around providing their client with a stylish appearance that suits their requirements.

This has, in fact led to the need for well-trained professional hairdressers who not only perform the basic hair-cutting process but are also able to provide a wide array of additional functions like colouring, face massaging, shaving, styling etc.

Prospective candidates planning to take up a career in this field must be prepared to learn as much as possible from hands on experience. As for the professional qualifications, candidates can undertake basic courses that usually last nine months or more. This can be followed by gaining hands-on experience by working as an apprentice under experienced professional hairdressers in a salon, preferably a well-known one. They commonly receive all mentoring, training and practical education in a saloon. In fact, salon training constitutes the most important way they can develop their skills. After obtaining a license upon the successful completion of salon training, candidates must also make a point to attend trade shows that showcase beauty products and demonstrate the latest styling processes.

Remuneration packages during the earlier stages may be on the lower side, but those with sharp learning skills and hair cutting abilities can expect excellent earning potential, not to forget the chance of attaining a solid reputation in a short span of time. This can be very important as it can enable them to even consider starting their own salons or businesses.
