Legal Executive

A Legal Executive represents the Legal group of the Law Firm/Organisation he/she is working with. The person’s chief responsibilities include managing all litigation and related matters for the corporate legal department, help to implement the compliance program, schedule all various conferences relevant to the occasion, schedule meetings, prepare expense detailed reports, confidential correspondence and offer support in other policy implementation projects.

In addition to these, the person will also have to assist in the coordination of different activities with the senior legal assistant and should possess the capabilities to prioritize all the work schedules. The individual must also be qualified and skilled to prepare correspondence for review by the attorney, skillfully edit, proofread and organize all legal and confidential documents. This will include purchase and sale agreements, finance documents, lease and rental documents. Besides these, the person will also have to coordinate with the domestic and internal counsel.

The qualifying candidates must possess knowledge of law and its various practices. This will include having specific knowledge of corporate governance, litigation as well as regulatory law. Excellent analytic skills, written and oral communication skills and computer literacy especially in Power Point, Access and Word is a must.

The person should have completed relevant studies in a legal program and should have a work experience of at least 3 years in the same category. Research skills combined with the knowledge of electronic research services e.g. LEXIS/NEXIS or even WESLAW is advantageous and would definitely give the candidate an edge over the others.

Salaries are competitive and totally dependent on an individual’s qualifications and experience. Growth prospects are excellent as one can swiftly move onto senior positions with a successful work record.

Legal Secretary

A Legal Secretary’s chief role is to assist the Head of the legal department in all the various functions of the department. This job function spreads across various industries from criminal and construction to hospitality and education. Individuals must be proficient in their area of specialisation. The person will have to manage the legal office, will be responsible for all correspondence internal and external, inter-face with all the clients, the visitors, create and maintain a database with appropriate details, appointments and the necessary processing required for the requisite activities.

A legal secretary is also responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all sensitive reports, litigation matters and assigned budgets. The person will have to offer professional support to all the legal executives, process the expense reports and maintain all the requisite spreadsheets.

Some related duties include handling the special projects which may be assigned and working with the upper management and the other staff and managing all the administrative functions in the most effective manner possible.

The person must possess a minimum of 5 - 10 years of legal work experience in the corporate world. Computer literacy is a must. Excellent organisational, written and oral skills is a must. The person should be an independent starter who can work on his own, have good team spirit and a very amicable attitude. Salary packages are dependent on one’s proven and successful work experience and skills in this job function. Growth prospects include progress to managerial positions which should never be a problem for deserving candidates.

Paralegal

Paralegal personnel will work closely with the attorneys who support the legal services in an organisation. A Paralegal person is responsible for all general transaction management and data room activities. The person will also have to handle researching, proofreading and other administrative duties as per the situation or the need of the hour.

The ideal candidate will be bright and bubbly with good attention to detail. The person must be well-versed in dealing with databases, skillful in drafting documents as well as practice notes, legal research and also in writing in-house articles.

Some of the other duties of this job function may include the constant reviewing of files and other documents as also providing additional support to attorneys whenever the occasion demands.

The qualifying individual must have excellent academics, preferably a degree in law and a work experience of at least 3-4 years in a corporate environment. Individuals with a BA or a BS degree and a work experience of 2 years will also qualify for this position. The persons must be highly proficient in research, have professional organisational skills and excellent verbal and written organisational skills. Computer knowledge and skills in various applications is a must, especially in Lexis/Nexis legal research software, PowerPoint and Excel.

A good team spirit, good communication skills and a pleasing personality to communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, and all other legal department support staff is one of the pre-essential qualities. The person should be an independent worker, possess a professional and positive attitude and have highly strong work ethics.

Compensation and growth prospects are dependent upon the individual’s work experience and one can aim for the highest rung of the ladder with a proven track record.

Practice Manager

A Practice Manager is responsible for the management of the finances as well as the administration functions of the organisation. This includes the management of the accounts department, human resources, credit control and even the information technology divisions.
In addition to the above mentioned duties, a Practice Manager has to manage the financial side of the practice, the meetings of the managing partners and the facilities involved therein.

The person will also be responsible for the facilitating and the improvisation of knowledge and imparting technical training to all the members of the corporate team. Highly professional management skills play a crucial role here and are a pre-requisite for every qualifying candidate.

An ideal candidate must have the requisite accountancy qualification and must possess the necessary work experience preferably in a law firm. This combined with knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules will definitely give the candidate an advantage over the other candidates. Individuals who have prior experience of SAR and have worked within a publicly funded practice will also have an edge over others.

Solicitor

A Solicitor’s chief responsibility involves conferring with Counsel, providing advisory services to clients, supervise and coordinate with the team of clerks and advocates, the partners and even the chief executive on the everyday activities and management of the office. A Solicitor’s job function spans a range of areas like that of catastrophic injuries, property, risk and compliance, crime, family, disputes, commercial property and even others.

The person has to ensure that payment of all requisite bills are made in accordance with the established norms and the same are delivered within specified time-frames. Individuals must possess all the knowledge applicable to their field of specialisation and this should be combined with excellent advocacy and organisational skills.

In addition to these a Solicitor must also possess advocacy and organising skills, good written and oral communication skills and must be a people’s person to be able to interact appropriately with clients, the staff members as well as the partners. Dealing with banking, debt markets, acting for and providing advisory services to large financial institutions and dealing with public sector clients in the most superior and effective manner are some of the other job responsibilities of this job function.

The qualifying candidate must have the abilities to respond to the ever changing demands and priorities of clients, other associate personnel and must possess experience which is in consistence with the norms of the Crime Supervisor Standards. The person must have the requisite qualifications preferably a background in finance, structured finance work, debt markets and finance project work combined with a few years of successful work experience.

Trainee Solicitor

The person will have to be a good relationship manager, attend law fairs and build relationships with universities and apply his/her knowledge and skills to develop an appropriate summer placement schemes. A trainee solicitor’s role spans various industries and the person has to have the appropriate knowledge and the skills to apply the same to the areas of work. Other duties of this work area include effective management of the files, drafting of all important contracts, transfers and leases, private mortgage deeds and deeds of priority.

All qualifying persons must possess the necessary legal qualifications combined with at least 2 years of experience. Growth prospects to senior positions and compensations packages are totally dependent on a person’s experience and proven track record.
