Re-Insurance Technician

A Re-insurance Technician profile is a very challenging one. The person is responsible for processing treaty statements, producing reinsurance reports and processing reinstatement premiums.

To qualify as a Re-Insurance Technician one must have a few years of experience of having worked in a reinsurance environment having dealt with both proportional and non-proportional reinsurance. Individuals must have relevant experience in the industry and with a proven track record and excellent communication skills.

Other duties involve dealing with facultative, treaty and XL policies, calculating recoveries, analysing reinsurance aged debt reports and preparing IBNR numbers for commutations.

A Re-Insurance Technician must possess strong IT skills and should have the ability to manage workloads. A few year’s experience in reinsurance administration with a keenness to enhance one’s skills will help one to advance faster.

Project Manager

A Project Manager holds a vast responsibility of overseeing the successful working of a project from inception to successful completion. The person has to analyse the impact of the ever-changing trends, implementing solutions, foresee improvements, train new employees and be alert on any kind problems by rendering of appropriate troubleshooting.

The person has to be able to analyse and investigate all relevant issues, question the functioning and coordinate efficiently with the support teams in the operations of the project. Individuals must have thorough skills and the requisite knowledge to identify process and system improvisations.

A Project Manager has to have excellent relationship skills to work in harmony with the concerned profit center and other staff involved in the specific project. Other duties involve the developing of training materials, implement training workshops for freshers and trainees working alongside on the project, guide and monitor the effectiveness of the same and constantly nurture their growth towards greater productivity.

The person will be totally responsible for the entire management of the project assigned to him/her and will have to constantly monitor the progress against plan, risk management, problem resolution, and status reporting needs to have excellent written and oral communication skills.

To qualify as a Project Manager, a person should have a minimum of a few years of experience, must have managed mid- to large-sized IT/business projects preferably within an SDLC framework. The person should be able to make successful deliverables. Proficiency in MS Project is a must.

Project management certification (PMBOK-certified university training) and PMP certification is a must. Compensation packages are extremely attractive and future growth prospects are entirely dependent on individual efforts and track records.

Risk Assessor

A Risk Assessor’s main duties involve the identification of the various areas of risk which may be presented by different processes. The person has to provide suitable and adequate risk assessments for the different activities which are carried out

The job profile necessitates assisting the personnel in the Quality and Safety Department, assisting the local managers to identify the hazards and implementing necessary controls to minimise or remove risks from activities.

The Risk Assessor has to provide advisory services on matters of Safety to all the production departments in relation to identified risks and risk assessments.

The areas of specialisations are wide-ranging and include Ecology, Health, Toxicology and others. The Risk Assessor has to possess in-depth knowledge of risk assessment techniques and the governing management principles. One has to constantly keep themselves updated about various changes/updates which may be incorporated.

The Risk Assessor will have to work closely with all the project teams and create the awareness of security risks. The person has also to provide security consultancy to the projects.

An aggressive individual, independent problem solver with motivating skills who can lead a team efficiently and effectively are the qualifying traits of a Risk Assessor. A Risk Assessor must be well acquainted and keep him/herself well informed with the international Quality and Safety standards.

A certificate course in Risk Assessment from a recognised institute is a pre-requisite for a Risk Assessor. Experience of Quality and Safety Management Systems, process development and change management is preferred and advantageous.

Risk Consultant

The process of measuring and assessing risk coupled with the development of strategies to manage the risk forms the core essence of a Risk Consultant’s job.

A Risk Consultant needs to have a thorough knowledge of assurance and enterprise risk services. They have to consult with business managers to understand their operational requirements, application environments, and level of security awareness. They also need to increase the security awareness and assure that corporate information security policies and objectives are being regularly met.

Other duties include interfacing with internal application development teams in an effort to ensure that information security objectives are integrated into development projects and that secure coding practices are implemented. The person should be able to impact on existing risk assessments, provide expertise on relevant subjects regarding the application of security and regulatory issues.

The person must have considerable hands-on knowledge and experience of risk management, quality management and should have a risk based approach to security.

A Risk Consultant must hold a minimum qualification of either a BA or a BS. The person must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy; and should be able to independently prioritize and plan the workload.

Growth prospects are in accordance with the individual’s experience, efforts and productivity.

Sales Inspector

Any Sales job requires a person to have a highly aggressive and amicable personality with an overly ambitious streak for achievement.

The Sales Inspector must have the aptitude to develop new customers in an area assigned to him/her. This can be done by resorting to a database of prospective client lists or by making cold calls.

Individuals must be independent go-getters to generate new leads. The Sales Inspector must also be able to develop and make strong presentations. Ability to quickly figure out relevant features of the industry is a must.

Qualifying traits are excellent sales aptitude and prior sales experience with strong communication and interpersonal skills coupled with organisational and the aptitude to work independently are a must.

A Sales job is always linked to incentives and the compensation packages are made more attractive with the additional perks through the achievement of the sales targets.

Surveyor

Insurance surveyors work for a wide range of companies e.g. insurance companies, insurance brokers, specialist insurance surveying firms and risk management consultancies.
A Surveyor is responsible for carrying out surveys of items which need to be insured. These include buildings, ships and even aircraft. These surveys initiate them to write reports. These reports help underwriters make a decision as to they should accept the insurance or not. They also recommend what terms and conditions should apply to the insurance.

There are four areas of specialisation for Surveyors. These include fire and perils (such as explosions and floods), accidents and liability, engineering and burglary and theft.

An Insurance Surveyor must have acute observation skills and an eye for detail. The person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications are a must though freshers are given ample training. A Surveyor’s job involves immense on-site surveying and a lot of traveling between various sites. Long hours and dedication are synonymous with this job profile which is compensated with interesting package.

Salaries are attractive and persons can advance to the positions of senior surveyors swiftly depending on their performance and results. The ambitious can also set up their own business.

Underwriter

The role of an Underwriter is to identify and calculate a policyholder's risk of loss. A great amount of trust is placed in these professionals because an insurance company may have to either pay excessive claims if the underwriter is too liberal, or may loose customers to competitors if the underwriter is too stingy. An Underwriter has to establish appropriate premium rates and write policies which cover the specific risks. Underwriters serve as the main link between the insurance carrier and the insurance agent in making this determination. They work in close coordination with sales agents especially in making presentations to prospective clients.

Possession of sharp and analytic skills coupled with computer skills are key requirements as an underwriter is responsible for making various applications and reports, efficient analysis and processing of complex applications. An Underwriter must also possess excellent evaluation and sound decision-making skills to determine the issuance of polices and the adjusting of their corresponding premiums.

Other important traits include having a good judgement to be able to make extremely reliable and sound decisions. As the role involves a lot of communication with agents and insurance professional an Underwriter must have impeccable written and verbal communication skills.

The areas of specialisation are numerous and varied. These range from Property to Casualty, Mortgage etc and Underwriters specialize by enhancing their skills accordingly in those areas.

A bachelor's degree in any field coupled with courses in accounting and business law provides a good general background helps one to qualify as an Underwriter. .
Individuals with relevant analytic skills, an eye for detail will find this profession extremely satisfying.

Growth prospects are excellent and Underwriters must constantly upgrade their skills for speedier advancement. Some companies provide training workshops and even sponsor capable individuals.
