Assistant Head of Year

An Assistant Head of Year assists the principal in the overall administration of the school. At times, these Assistants perform this role for a couple of years. This is done as a preparation for better growth prospects

Some of the important duties include monitoring and establishing appropriate student discipline, management of the attendance problems, overseeing social as well as recreational programs, and even looking after health and safety matters.

They are also expected to provide counseling to students on personal, educational, and vocational matters. They also help in developing new curriculums, evaluating teachers, and dealing with school-community relations. The number of assistant principals that a school employs may vary, depending on the number of students.

These individuals usually have prior teaching experience before moving into administration. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential because the role involves working and regularly collaborating with others. Deputy Head

A Deputy Head has to have the requisite capabilities and skills to be able to cope with a wide range of educational matters and other related issues in addition to being familiar with the primary curriculum. Head of Department

A Head of Department must be absolutely knowledgeable of the curriculum which is established for the particular academic time-frame.

Some of the important functions of this position include formulating and establishing other aims and objectives of the department in accordance with those laid down by the school. The individual has to maintain appropriate discipline, oversee the welfare of all within the Department, interface with the various Heads of Department and other personnel, and manage their individual problems. In addition to these, the role requires the person to prepare a timetable for the Department, deploy the staff, review the syllabi, and ensure that accurate standards of work in all the subjects are maintained. Furthermore, this role would also involve allocating the requisite budget and monitoring expenses, maintaining harmonious relationships with other educational institutes and establishing goodwill amongst all.

They should have strong leadership skills and motivational levels. Excellent communication skills and a passion to work in the best interests of the organisation are a must. A PhD in Higher Education is highly recommended but a Master’s degree combined with at least 6-8 years of experience in the development and management of education will also qualify a candidate for this position. Head of Faculty

The Head of Faculty has innumerable responsibilities to perform. They include coordinating and directing staff and students, managing admission procedures, providing counseling, overseeing financial assistance, and supervising residential programs on one hand and social and recreational programs on the other.

In some educational institutes, there are separate individuals handling each of these services. The Head of Faculty is responsible for recruitment, evaluation and the admission of students.

Distance learning and technology management form a part of this position. The Head of Faculty has to be alert to the constant changes in the syllabi, if any, and incorporate the necessary changes accordingly. Planning of the budget and management of the expenses of the concerned department is another important duty of this position.

Any faculty head must possess excellent leadership skills, motivational skills and have the necessary abilities to be an extremely responsible individual coordinating with the faculty, parents, students, community members and educational financers.

The position is very demanding, stressful and comes with a number of key responsibilities. It poses a lot of challenges especially when it comes to dealing with difficult or problematic students. Adhering to the guidelines established by the State is another function and one has to be cautious while adhering to these in an amicable and professional manner.

A PhD in Higher Education is a must. A graduate combined with 5-6 years of work experience will also help to qualify a candidate for this position. Head of Key Stages 1

The primary task of the Head of Key Stage 1 work area is to improve the educational outcomes of the children and students by understanding their needs in the early stages of their education.

Individuals must have the necessary capabilities to offer individual and group teaching for the young students to improvise their literacy and numerical skills. The position demands a regular interface with parents, teachers, social workers and liaising with other education teachers.

Head of Key Stages 2

Individuals qualifying for this work area should have an excellent working knowledge of the National Curriculum Guidelines for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Individuals must have experience in teaching young children in mixed ability groups and a natural and caring persona to cater to the educational and well-being of children. They must possess sufficient work experience of teaching in a reputed institute. A caring attitude and the capability to handle children of different aptitudes and skills is a must. The role demands them to have good communication skills as they have to interface regularly with parents, teachers and also liaise with other education personnel. Fluency in spoken and written English language is a must.

Head Teacher

A Head Teacher must possess the relevant drive and enthusiasm to elevate the existing status of the educational institute to a higher one. The individual must have experience in curriculum planning and implementation as well as classroom environments.

They must have a proven and successful track record of developing educational programmes and strategizing for futuristic policies in the interests of the school. Some of the important duties include successful building of a team to ensure a warm, safe, fun-loving and learning environment. The individual will have to contribute out-of-the-box ideas for introducing innovations in the planning of lessons and the delivery of the same according to the norms of the school and also within specific time-frames.

A few of the other key functions include performing activities with the aid of technological tools to familiarize students with the same, communicating with them on an individual level, assisting teachers and guiding them while helping those children who may be in need of more attention, and communicating with their parents at an individual and group level
