Kitchen Staff

Kitchen Staff is always expected to be hygienic, friendly, and have a great team spirit. The individuals need to be impeccable about kitchen hygiene and the handling of food materials and ingredients.

These persons must be well trained in the carrying of the kitchen equipment which includes cutlery and all other related articles. They should know how to arrange everything systematically in the kitchen for all to access everything easily and conveniently.

These individuals must possess basic qualification in catering/hotel management combined with work experience in a similar area. For those who possess a degree in hotel management, this area of work would be a part of their work experience but for those who specialise in this job function, working in this area would require knowledge of hygiene in the kitchen and all the other aspects related to this job area.

Salaries are reasonable at the entry-level but for those who have prior work experience, the compensations are fairly attractive. Growth prospects are dependent on the individual’s personal efforts and initiatives to move to better positions.

Receptionist

A Receptionist is the face of the organisation. The person has to be impeccable and presentable both in personality and manners. The individual must possess a very cordial and pleasant personality to deal with the patrons of the hotel/restaurant in the most affable manner.

The person must have a thorough knowledge of attending the telephones in the most courteous fashion and attending to the various clientele in the most pleasing and cordial manner. From basic greetings to catering to their various inquiries and attending to them swiftly and smoothly, the person must be able to handle the functions very effectively.

The person is responsible for keeping the reception impeccable and functional. The area should look very tastefully cheerful and have all the necessary requirements which the guests may require or ask for e.g. a telephone, world timings, guest relations book and guest information.

The individual must have a thorough knowledge of handling the check-in and check-out timings of the guests, bill them according to their stay and manage the cash flow accurately. At the same time, the person must know how to maintain the confidentiality of the various guests and not divulge the information of one to the other.

The ideal candidate must have a very pleasing personality and should have a cheerful disposition. A candidate with a hotel management degree would always qualify but one who has the basic academic (high school or undergraduate qualification) combined with the a few years of experience will also qualify for this position.

Persons can earn fairly reasonable earnings at the entry level and earn more by way of tips which are normally given by generous guests. Growth prospects to senior positions like assistant manager or manager can be acquired with a productive track record.

Restaurant Manager

A Restaurant Manager must be able to bring innovative and creative ideas to make the restaurant run more attractive to clientele and increase the productivity of the same. The person should be able to handle more than 70 covers at one time ensuring that the qualitative standards are always met and maintained according to the norms established by the restaurant.

The person should be alert and aware of the constantly changing tastes in food and beverages of the various clientele who patronize the restaurant and try to meet their demands in a satisfying manner. The person should possess the expertise to handle and manage all the meals ranging from breakfast, lunch, evening tea to dinner in the most attractive and professional manner.

A smart restaurant manager will keep a tab on his or her regular clients, identify their special days and occasions and try to award them accordingly by offering them special treats (e.g. birthday cakes etc to mark the occasion, a special song dedication to the person etc or a bouquet of flowers) for the concerned person. These small tokens make the clients happy and the occasion a memorable one.

The qualifying candidate must have a hotel background and at least a work experience of 2 years. Prior work experience in a reputed hotel will be advantageous and the person can start off at a middle management level. A person at an entry level can also work his/her way up by constantly upgrading their restaurant skills and endeavoring to attain the highest levels of qualitative service to the clients and the restaurant.

A good team spirit, amicable personality and the desire to achieve the highest standards of superior service are pre-essentials to this job function. The hours of work are definitely long and tedious but the rewards are satisfying in the long run. Salaries are reasonably attractive and one can attain better pay packages by virtue of one’s efforts and proven track records.

Waiting Bar Staff

The Bar Staff personnel need to possess thorough knowledge of the drinks they serve to the various clientele of the Bar. This is an area where the tastes of the clientele is ever changing and one has to keep oneself enhanced with these changes on a regular basis.

The person must possess the knowledge to churn out the most appetizing cocktails, constantly be aware of the latest drinks and concoctions in the industry, have a creative bend of mind to come up with some original drinks and serve the same to the clientele in the most fashionable and professional manner.

A person must have a catering degree to his/her credit and this should be combined with a work experience of at least 2-3 years in a reputed restaurant. A person at an entry-level who holds a diploma in the same and has a few years of experience to their credit can acquire a good job with a fairly reasonable salary at a good restaurant.

The person must have good team spirit, pleasing personality and willing to enhance his/her skills. One has to be willing to work long hours and possess the personality to manage clientele of varying mannerisms and behaviour patterns. Those who join at entry-level have little to bargain in terms of salaries and have to work their way up. Persons with the requisite qualification and expertise can avail of attractive packages and attain senior positions by proving a successful track record.

Successful candidates will have strong leadership, excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills and previous senior divisional operational experience, preferably in the luxury hotel market. Second language and geographic mobility are preferred.
