Bar Manager

A Bar Manager must possess real knowledge of all the stocks which are maintained in the Bar. The person must have the skills to control procedures, identify the needs of regular patrons, cater the best services to all the clientele and should be skilled to impart the highest services to them. Very often, this job opportunity is open to males only and it is a rare occasion to see a woman undertake such a job designation.

The role is very challenging and requires a person to be thoroughly qualified in the area of work, possess the requisite customer service skills to offer the highest standards of service, maintain, sustain existing standards and constantly improvise on the existing ones.

A degree in catering combined with a few years of experience helps to qualify a candidate for this position but one with a basic college degree can also step into this career at an entry level and work his way up.

The ideal candidate should have a friendly personality, should be a people’s person and have the necessary ability to get along with a range of people from across a range of industries. The person should have a lot of patience, understanding and the maturity to handle various occasions, contingencies and also have the capability to offer the best of services to all the clients.

Compensation packages are interesting and one can earn a lot with the additional ‘tips’ which may be bestowed upon the individual as these places are patronized by the elite of society.


Chef

A Chef must have extensive experience in the preparation and cooking of the requisite cuisine where he/she is employed. The person must have an excellent understanding of food hygiene including HACCP, food handling as well as food presentation concepts. A thorough knowledge of popular catering and all bakery products is essential and a must.

The individual must be well-versed in hygiene, and in the running of the kitchen. He/She must work in accordance to the established norms of the organisation and should be able to maintain the highest standards of food ethics and hygiene.

Excellent management and team leading skills are a necessity. The person should be able to guide and lead the team towards the best results of the organisation. Excellent communication skills and team spirit are essential to be able to function and achieve the desired results from all the clientele who patronize the place. Credibility is a must as the individual will be inter-facing with various people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

A degree in catering is a must. Individuals with a diploma in catering and work experience of at least 4-5 years, resourceful and with a flexible outlook and who possess the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities will also qualify for this position. The person must be computer literate.

A friendly disposition and the persona to amicably lead a team towards the successful achievement of the targets and goals of the organisation are essential characteristics of such an individual. Salaries are attractive and the growth prospects are excellent for those who can prove a successful track record.

Hotel Manager

A Hotel Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient running the entire operations of a hotel. From creating the most memorable ambience for the guests in terms of stay and cuisine to maximizing the profitability of all the various departments in accordance to the norms established by the hotel, the person will be responsible for all related activities.

Excellent leadership and team building qualities, impeccable guest relations and catering to all the patrons in the most efficient and effective manner are pre-essentials of this person. The person will have to work in complete coordination with the staff of the various departments towards maximizing the highest guest satisfaction. The individual will have to prepare annual departmental budgets which will reflect the plans of the hotel’s operations. He/she will have to give the requisite training in finance and control procedures as outlined by the Internal Audit individuals and will have to ensure the same are adhered to.

Effective management of the cash flows and the staff, efficient management of the teams, excellent supervision and management of the activities of the entire teams working under him and the other related departments as well are some of the other important duties of this job function.

An ideal candidate would be one with a qualifying degree in hotel management and a few years of work experience in the same industry. The person must have a very friendly and courteous demeanour and should be able to identify the needs of the guests and cater to them in them in the most effective and consistent manner. Other important duties include the management of human resources like recruitments, selection, orientation, training, performance reviews, salaries and recognition programs to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce.

This is a very competitive industry and the salaries are highly attractive for those who have the requisite experience and knowledge of this job function. Growth prospects are excellent for the ambitious and one can scale the corporate ladder swiftly with a proven track record.

Housekeeping

The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the housekeeping department. The person is totally responsible for the stay of the guests, their comfort and their well-being during their stay in the hotel.

The person is responsible for the implementation of the department’s objectives, maintenance of their standards, effective handling of the budgets and other administrative processes, as well as accurate researching, analyzing, and determining new equipment and amenities to ensure purchases are within the established budgets. Qualitative preparation of the rooms for the guests, appropriate preparations of the other areas as per the client’s desires and needs pertaining to the occasions, and promoting innovative methods and techniques to increase the productivity of the hotel are some other important duties of this individual.

The individual must be well-versed and knowledgeable about the most superior levels of hygiene applicable to the industry and should possess the skills to maintain the same on a consistent basis. The individual has to be confident to handle a huge portfolio of responsibilities in the most smooth and confident manner.

The person should be willing to work in an environment with varying levels of noise and should be comfortable working with a large volume of people on a regular basis. An ideal candidate must be qualified with a hotel management degree and should have prior work experience of at least 2-3 years. A undergraduate who has completed a diploma course in Housekeeping combined with a few years of experience in an established organisation will also qualify for this position.

The compensation packages are highly attractive for those who have the requisite knowledge and experience to back them. Growth prospects are not limiting for one who has the ability and can prove a successful track record.
