Directorate Accountant

A highly responsible profile, a Directorate Accountant has more than desired on his plate. Budgeting, monitoring, provision of information, working papers, final accounting for revenue and capital expenditure/income/grants all come under his purview.

The person is totally responsible for assisting the management team with inputs in the form of advice and guidance on financial management and budgetary control.

Other responsibilities include financial accounting, management accounting and internal
control systems. The individual needs to have the requisite expertise to develop financial
strategy, providing all information on costing and management, making risk analyses and
maximizing returns on investments.

Other key functions include the efficient handling of the strategic direction and management of the portfolio of services within the directorate including the delivery of the financial aspects of the business plan.

A CCAB (Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies) qualification is a pre-requisite and management accounting experience would be an added advantage.

Forensic Accountant

A Forensic Accountant is always able to focus on the key documents which are necessary to establish the true financial prospects and position of a business.

A Forensic Accountant has a range of duties to accomplish to name a few, divorce, fraud, oppressed shareholder litigation, personal injury, personal litigation and wrongful death. For matters of litigation, estate tax valuation, matrimony, mergers & acquisitions, a Forensic Accountant offers business valuation services.

The industry of Forensic accounting includes accounting, auditing and investigative skills. A Forensic Accountant may be involved with work from barristers or even legal counsel requiring accounting investigative skills. Duties may also include reviewing a set of accounts, the determining of recklessness, carelessness or unacceptable accounting treatment, accounting investigations concerning allegations of criminal behaviour and others.

A Forensic Accountant must have the capabilities to identify key issues, a creative bend and eye for detail. Confidence and conviction are the essential traits of this job profile as it entails working with a diverse group of people. An open and inquiring mind with excellent listening skills are essential to understanding people’s innumerable issues in detail and progress accordingly.

An individual should be a qualified accountant or a certified public accountant and can enhance his progress with other academic qualifications.

Fund Accountant

The job of a Fund Accountant involves complete responsibility for the functioning of the fund accounting department.

The duties are numerous and range from management of the financial statements productions for a large number and a range of investment and hedge funds. The person will have to be very systematic in the scheduling of financial statements productions within the department and adhere to deadlines.

These are the maintenance of accounting records in detail for all transactions which affect assigned funds, reviewing of corporate actions and verifying Fund Pricing by the day.

Assisting in the preparation of published annual and quarterly reports and monthly surveys, calculating monthly, quarterly and annual performance for investment vehicles, monitoring portfolios exposures, assisting in the processing and reviewing of client subscriptions and redemptions.

A Fund Accountant is also required to liaise with fund’s external auditors to ensure the timely completion of the audit, manage other financial and regulatory reporting carried out by the team, manage all training, appraisal and development of the team, identify and implement practical enhancements , automotive processes to improve workflows in the fund accounting department.

Preparation of monthly accounts, year end accounts, expense reports, fund values, Net Asset Prices also form part of his portfolio duties. Besides these the person may also be involved in administrative and research functions.

The person should have strong analytic and quantitative skills, problem-solving attributes and requisite computer skills. Successful candidates with a good understanding of accounting principles, communication skills

Academic qualifications of a Financial Manager or Financial Accountant best suit this profile. Compensation packages are excellent and growth prospects are rewarding.

Group Accountant

A Group Accountant’s job is all the more serious. The person serves as the primary point of contact for all related finance functions of the organisation. The responsibilities are many and include the preparation of Group annual budgets, overseeing internal accounting, consolidation of journals, production of the Group’s cash flow statements, preparation of timely and monthly forecasts for all assigned programs, preparation of weekly, monthly management accounts and quarterly finance accounts.

Other key functions include the management and handling of capital accounts, revenue accounts and the monitoring all expenditure. The role of a Group Accountant is very demanding in terms of consultancy and advisory services as well. The person is required to provide high quality financial information and advice to Senior Officers, to Committees, and is responsible to develop service initiatives and policy changes. As an advisor, the person plays an important role on advising the businesses on Group policy and on the undertaking of special projects. The production of Group results on a statutory basis is another important function and this is done for both internal and external reporting cycles.

A Group Accountant is also responsible for managing the statutory accounting for the Group in addition to which the person has to oversee that the Group adheres to strict accounting policies. This also involves the planning and production of accounts for a variety of Group companies, if they exist, and a constant monitoring of past and current finance activities.

To don the hat of a Group Accountant, the person has to have the requisite qualifications in the field of Accountancy. Knowledge of Hyperion and sound knowledge of technical financial accounting are indispensable feature of this responsible position. Excellent financial and intercommunication and analytic skills, planning and organisation, and the ability to make precise and timely judgments crucial to the productivity of the organisation.

Insolvency Specialist

Insolvency is best defined as the situation where a person or organisation is unable to meet their liabilitities /debts and is declared as bankrupt.

Insolvency involves the process to guide clients (individual or corporates) very systematically through their commercial and legal issues which they encounter during the insolvency procedures.

A person’s functions include offering advice related to liquidation, turnaround restructuring and refinancing, security review and enforcement.

A very challenging career to pursue, it offers immense opportunities to those who have the initiative and skills. The responsibilities include every aspect of insolvency. All areas of recovery i.e. from pre-lending and security reviews, to administrations, investigating the reports of accountants, internal auditing, formal appointments such as Receiverships, Voluntary Administrations and Bankruptcies.

A strong personality and initiative with relationship management attributes helps individuals to progress well in this job . Internal Auditor

An Internal Auditor has a very responsible role in any organisation. To begin with the person has to be able to determine the objectives and scope of audit. The person should be able to conduct complete audits and has to conduct risk-based audits across sectors like finance, education, social services and operations to assess the efficiency and performance of the organisation.

The individual should also be capable to develop and implement goals and objectives, policies, procedures and establish standards for internal audits.

An internal auditor’s other duties involve follow-up recommendations, monthly reports, verification of the quality and efficiency of the internal control system, maintaining and updating the internal control system, evaluating operations; analyzing and evaluating program policies and procedures and processes..

Important functions like the evaluation of financial and managerial internal controls, program costs and accomplishments and organizational structures, preparation of flow diagrams, presentations for oral and written reports also come under his purview.

This position requires a strong persona, excellent analytic skills and leadership qualities to be able to lead a team and fully understand their needs and problems and find the practical solutions. The person should be able to develop and maintain productive working relationships with all concerned in the interests of the company.

One has to possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Auditing or Business Administration. The person should be qualified in the principles and practices of Auditing, public finance, budgeting laws, procedures, government’s principles and practices of accounting and should also be well-versed with statistical analysis and analytical techniques.
